Baraka Victory Centre aims to make a lasting difference in communities in the South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. BVC welcomes national and international volunteers to work on its projects assisting communities in Fizi Zone and territories surrounding in South Kivu DR Congo.
The main skills required are:
- Doctors, nurses, dentists, psychologists, counselors and community health workers to work at Free Methodist clinics and in the wider community
- Teaching sewing, agriculture or computer skills to young people
- Social workers
- Experience in researching, reporting on or assisting victims of sexual violence and other human rights abuses
- Film makers
- Soccer coaches
Your skills will be useful and appreciated in the community. Where practical, you should be able to provide training and advice to staff and local volunteers. Students can also volunteer in any of these areas.
Dates, location and length of stay
Any volunteer may come at any time of year, and stay for any length of time. Depending on the skills you have, you could be located at any of BVC project sites in the Fizi Zone and surrounding area. When applying, please indicate if you have a preference for living or working in a particular place e.g. a large town or a rural area.
Accommodation can be provided by BVC in the homes of staff members or other local families. This will give volunteers a real opportunity to find out how people live in Congo, and volunteers will have an opportunity to become a part of the community where they are working. Alternatively, you can arrange your own accommodations if you prefer.
Volunteers are responsible for paying for their own air fare, lodging, travel-visa, medical and travel insurance, and for leisure activities.
If you stay at accommodation provided by BVC there is no charge for this, but you will need to pay for food, laundry and other personal living expenses.
There are no additional fees for volunteers, but you may make a donation to the organisation if you wish.
BVC is currently working on a project of collecting donations and are accepting volunteers to help with the project. BVC needs volunteers to help with fundraising both locally and internationally to build a library in Baraka. BVC also needs volunteers who can help with proposal writing, advertising and publicity, designing and managing projects and filling organizational needs. If you are interested in volunteering with us please contact us.
